Quicky

I had to *sob* admit defeat. The European Boy's beat me. It pains me to type this.
I did however, eat my weight in prawns. Just about. I made us girls proud! I think I devoured 3 overflowing plates of prawns. The fact that I had to be rolled out of Jimmy's Killer Prawns is another story all together. Wow.

I have a quick Q...

Is there always fire where there's smoke?

Beaten by a Girl!

I went back to gym today and I nearly died. I huffed and puffed like a sixty year old who smokes 60 a day. It was attractive. It felt good to be back though...back and focused.

May I please do a little victory jig. I just bought 2 pairs of Levi jeans...and they were two sizes smaller. I am so chuffed right now. I haven't been this size since I was...I don't know actually... that's how long it's been!
Speaking of shopping... I have a problem. OK wait. That sounds bad. I'm really not a shopaholic, in fact, I'm an embarrassment to the female race.
I'd like to think of myself as a really clever shopper. I manage to find good little steals and I know how to make something look really expensive when in fact it cost me nothing... just about.

I have had to do that to be honest, because I have such expensive taste. Expensive and international taste. I always manage to pick out the most expensive things in catalogues or I'll go into a store and love the pair of shoes/coat/dress/lounge suite that has the extra zero's on the end, while everything else is reasonable.
I'm also not shy to ask people in the street where they got certain things. I sometimes embarrass the people I'm around because I'll walk up to a woman and say: "Aw I love your necklace/hat/boots/jersey/etc...Where did you get it from?" I am yet to hear someone tell me they got it in this country. Hell, I'd even settle for someone telling me they got it in another province.
It's always:"Oh this? I got it in Dubai/Brazil/London/Spain/Thailand/Italy/Paris etc..."
See? Expensive AND foreign taste!
When I have had extra cash and spoilt myself on something boutique-y and expensive I hardly ever receive a compliment. HOWEVER... If I buy something from Mr. Price people flip out about it.I once bought a pair of shoes from Jet (they looked like Diors) and people flipped out. I just smiled knowing full well they cost me R99.99. :-)

Anyway.

I am so excited.

You know how much I adore/obssess over prawns. When I first started seeing European Boy I had to suss out if he liked the little garlic and lemon butter buggers. That would have been my deal breaker. Just kidding. Seriously. Turns out he loves them too and he instantly became a keeper. :-)
I was telling/warning him that I really am extremely embarrassing to be around when I eat prawns. I become an animal. Always a good thing to warn a new man. I need a warning label...or a "terms and conditions apply" label when I eat prawns or singledom could be a reality.
He's been telling me that he is worse. I don't believe him.
We've been egging each other on for a while now and finally we're putting it to rest. Tonight at Jimmy's Killer Prawns, is: ALL YOU CAN EAT SPECIAL!
I think I just orgasmed.

His brother got involved too, so now it is the European Boy's vs Blondie. Those boys are going down. I've been sending them messages all day asking them to prepare for the fact that they're going to be beaten...by a girl.
I'll let you know how it goes down tomorrow, unless of course I eat myself into a coma.

Oh shit...I may just put on those two dress sizes and have to take those Levi jeans back. We'll deal with that at tomorrow's gym session.
Let's hope for a victory people!

Knysna

Soundtrack: Offsprings' Greatest Hits, Snow Patrol, The Killers and R.E.M
Indulged in: prawns, oysters, wine, Pezula spa.

Knysna was absolutely exquisite. Even the weather played ball. I did feel like a true Joburger though, because sure, it wasn't summer sunshine, but the sun still shone and that was good enough for me and my lily white ass to hit the beach. There were the locals who were in jeans and light cardigans walking along the beach with their dogs, I decided to ignore them as I smoothed on sunscreen, popped the iPod on and lay on my colourful towel ignoring the chill in the wind.

We stayed at Pezula in a house (well, the word "house" isn't really fair...more like a modern mansion) on the golf course over looking the ocean. It was spectacular. I particularly enjoyed the early mornings - heaven knows why I can't sleep in on holidays. I would sneak out onto the balcony, hoping not to wake anyone, and enjoy a cup of coffee, the quiet and the sunrise. Peaceful.

The one and only night we decided to go out in Knysna, turned out to be ridiculously fun. We had all been joking that the six of us were going to be the only ones at the club. Knysna had been relatively dead. We arrived at Zanzibar Club and it was decorated with pink draping, pink feathers, pink everything. My first thought was: Damn. Where did all these guys come from? and then my second thought was: Hang on. Why are there soooo many guys?
The party that was night was called The Pink Mardi Gras. It was Gay Night in Knysna.
What a jol!
Men were either wearing feathers, checked shirts, shorts with calf-length socks, or dresses, complete with wigs, fishnets and red lipstick.
I was so looking forward to hearing YMCA; It's Raining Men and We Are Family, but they didn't play those songs. Disappointing.
:-)
Why is it that boerewors rolls always taste like heaven at 2am? I drenched mine in tomato sauce and mustard and gobbled it down. Good times.

European Boy played a round of golf at Pezula and I drove the golf cart around. No one was injured, surprisingly enough, not even the baboons who were de-fleaing each other on the course. I have no idea how golf works, or what the point is really... You hit the ball away and then you have to find it again (a few times) until you putt it into a hole. 18 times. I wouldn't have a clue whether the guys played like shit or like Tiger Woods so I just gushed at how great they were playing. It didn't go down well when I called out, very enthusiastically: "Good shot!" Apparently, it's not a good thing when it lands in a bunker, the water or the fynbos.

I was treated to the Pezula Spa and I felt ridiculously indulgent. EB booked us into a shoulder, back and neck massage and honestly, it was the best massage I have ever experienced. *sigh*
We made use of the water massage bed too, the steam room, the heated pool and the jacuzzi that happened to be outside. That was my favourite. It was drizzling outside and we kept warm, if you know what I mean. ;)
I felt like a princess - totally and utterly spoilt!

I loved every minute of it and yes it was too short. Aren't holidays always?

I'm not quite sure how I'm going to cope with a normal 5 day week.

2am

I treated my mate Sugar and I (we're both going through break ups) to prawns last night. What was supposed to be one glass of wine, turned into three...or was it four? For me, one glass of wine is already a danger zone. For some reason I can drink plenty (well...I'm called Florence because I nurse my drinks) of mixed drinks or bottled drinks, even two or three cocktails and feel cool...but give me one measily glass of wine and I'm ready to shake my ass on the table with a "Yeeeehah!!" That would not have been appropriate at Adega. On a Wednesday night.

We ended up getting kicked out of Adega and moved onto the Corner House. Oh good grief. It is a house that has been converted into an Irish Pub and anything goes. If you're under thirty you're way too young and if you're dressed up like you're going to an FTV you are going to stick out like a sore thumb...a fashionable sore thumb. Dancing is not a group act...it's partnered up.
I can't remember the last time I was a) asked to dance and b) danced with a guys hand on my back with a few twirls and dips thrown into the mix.
It was fun. One of the things that freaked Sugar and I out, was the fact that the majority of the men there were old enough to be our dads and some of them our grandfathers. They all have hungry eyes and you know exactly what I mean by that. The worst was being winked at or my favourite, having this guy lick his lips in my direction. I wasn't sure if he was trying to put his dentures back in with no hands or if that was supposed to be some sort of "Hey baby..How you doin'?" pick up.
Ewww.

Anyway.

It is incredibly weird to be back at home. I haven't lived under my parents roof in four years. It is absolutely wonderful in some instances and in others, not so much. I am loving the fact that I have my mom and dad around. I haven't eaten this well or this healthy in ages and my dad brings me a cup of tea every single morning with his cheerful sing-songy "Good morning sunshine!"
My mom plays with my hair and gives me plenty of hugs. We sit watching Ugly Betty and Greys together and I'm just really enjoying the luxuries of being home. I haven't had to worry about what I'm going to cook for dinner, about buying dishwasher or Handy Andy and they've told me that I don't need to pay rent. God, I am lucky. I told them that at the moment I am really enjoying not having to be an "adult", but that it isn't unappreciated (I'm no spoilt brat) and that as soon as I can "breathe" again I will happily assist with things like cooking meals, buying groceries and so forth. I've been told not to be silly, but I can't just lounge around doing nothing..I just have to pull my weight or I wouldn't feel right (that and the fact that I may just used to it.)
My mom and dad are just so happy that I'm home and I wanted to cry out of happiness.

However, I am getting the sms' during the day like:
"Blondie, it's mom. Are you going to be home for dinner? I need to know how many steaks to take out of the freezer and how many vegetables to cook. Love you."

"Blondie...it's mom. I don't want to nag, but it's 01h30. What time will you be home? You do know it's raining out don't you? I hate you driving on the roads. Would you like dad to come and follow you home? This is not good for your body. Love Your No. 1 Fan."

(My mom has always called herself my No. 1 Fan and I could just gobble her up...she doesn't realise how much that means to me.)

It is awfully sweet, but I haven't had to think of these things in years and I feel like a selfish shit because I'm getting annoyed. When I stumbled in this morning at 02h00 my mothers bedroom lamp flicked on I got the "This is no time for a young lady to be coming home during the week" lecture.
I... um... have been doing this for years and I'm impressed that I'm home at 2am.

It's just huge adjustments all around, but I wouldn't have it anyway. My family are absolute angels and I am the luckiest girl in the world.

Don't talk to me...talk to my lawyer!

I am suing Veet Hair Removal. I can't really, but I followed every instruction. I bought that cream you can use in the shower. I even did the bloody test patch...who actually does that?
I do. Nothing happened. I then applied it all over my legs and waited to see if I could feel any tingling. Nothing. I blissfully shower away and after 6 minutes I started washing it off.
I have had such an allergic reaction to this stuff, my legs look as if I've been stung by a million bees. It is so sore that I can't even put pants on, so unfortunately I am wearing a dress today and having to show off my red rash.
Fuckers.
So that's the thing...I can't sue them even though I followed the instructions. How would I prove that?
Fuckers.
God it's sore!

On a lighter less painful note, I am really enjoying the sunshine we're experiencing in Joburg. It's beautiful. My right arm is actually a little tanned from all the driving I've been doing.
Hooray. I am done with winter. I've had it. If I get one more static shock I'm going to lose it. I am practically bathing in body butter yet I am so dry it is disgusting. Nice and flaky. I have had enough of drowning my lips in Elizabeth Arden's 8 hour cream and still having unkissable dry, chapped lips. Enough now! *Sorry Elizabeth Arden....*
However, when winter does eventually end I'm going to have to reveal my white-see-through skin and those comfortable clothing layers will disappear. Hmmm...although, for the first time in um, well, 25 years I've been sticking to this health regime so hopefully I'll be bikini ready. Hopefully.

I was really good. I didn't devour prawns and took a note out of your book. Clearly most of you are health bunnies! Share your secrets!! How do you do it?
I ate grilled lemon and black pepper chicken with gem squash and peas. How good am I?
*Blogshell pats herself on the back.*
This week alone I have been to boxing 3 times, tomorrow will make it 4 times.

It's the weekend peeps! I am celebrating my heritage today and I'm very excited about it! Big celebrations.
I am also really excited about this weekend...have big parties ahead and it should be scandalous and fabulous!
ENJOY!!

I kissed a girl....

Prime Circle raised the bar for our local bands and musicians! I felt (unbiasedly) as if I was watching an International act!
The stage, visuals, lighting and special affects was world class and they totally outdid themselves!
I didn't throw panties. I did sing along to every song and I rocked out.
We all went to the Protea Hotel for the "After Party" and it was so great to chill out with the guys, catch up with people I haven't seen in ages and get a little raucous with Jaegerbombs.
All my gal pals and I kept singing and dancing to the song: I Kissed a Girl by Katy Perry.
I adore the song. Is that a bad thing? Does it make us lesbians? Nope. I danced and shouted out the lyrics and now I have that song stuck in my head.
"I kissed a girl, and I liked it. The taste of her cherry chapstick. I kissed a girl, just to try it. I hope my boyfriend don't mind it."
la la la la la la la

I am relieved I didn't have a boxing class this morning because I wouldn't have made it! I didn't wake up with a hangover, thank God, but I do feel exhausted. I cannot get to bed at 3am and expect a fresh start in the morning. It's weird how that happens.
*Yawn*

I'm seriously craving prawns. I just want to dunk those little buggers in garlic, lemon-butter sauce.
What is up with this? Ever since I started on my get-healthy-by-eating-right-and-exercising-so-you-can't-move regime, I have been craving all things bad. Like the above.
Although, I'd like to meet someone who actually craves brocolli, brussel sprouts, grilled or boiled chicken etc.
I'll hate them instantly. There will be a serious injustice in the universe.

I have

a tendency to put my "foot in my mouth." Not just any foot. No, I do it properly. I normallyput a stiletto boot in my mouth.
It's horrible.
We were invited to one of my man's very good friends for dinner. His girlfriend cooked the most amazing meal. I was in heaven. Prawns were involved. Need I say more?
I raise the fact that I saw my man's mate in a past issue of the Cleo Magazine and how great the photos were.
I immediately saw his girlfriend look uncomfortable and she said: "Yes, well, if he wants to parade around as a bachelor then it can always become a permanent arrangement."
Cold.
He has been entered into a magazine to be one of the sexy bachelors. It's now open for the public to vote.
I don't see a problem with that. Unmarried men are bachelors. It would be another story if he was being called an Eligible Bachelor.
Different thing.
Unbeknownst to me, they had been fighting about this before we arrived and now my man just phoned to tell me, that they continued to fight after we left and the whole of yesterday and now they've broken up.
I feel awful. I know I didn't have anything to do with it, sure, but I do feel bad.
Crap.

On a better note, I had the best day yesterday. We drove out to Magaliesberg, late of course, and as we got out the car, I immediately said: "Smell that?"
"Smell what?"
"Fresh air! Aaah! Breathe deeply!"

We walked inside (my man still wasn't too clear as to what the surprise was) and was immediately greeted by the Queen of Queens and a woman. We are very open to gay people, I have several gay friends actually, but once I told my man what was happening, he looked at me like: This man is going to be touching and rubbing me. Seriously?
He fluffed around us, all very politely but enthusiastically and told us "sweeties" to get undressed and come out as soon as we were done.
We went into 3 hours of pure bliss at the Spa. It was so wonderful to relax. The hot stone massage was fab but the dude kept talking through out and then he spoke about his children and wife. Stop the bus. *Record screech*
Say what?
It was rather amusing. I totally misjudged him, but seriously...he was incredible effeminate.
After our aromatherapy bath, massage, facial etc the conclusion was that the man absolutely LOVED IT. I don't care what they say, men LOVE being pampered.

Afterwards we drove around for quite a while until we eventually turned back and went across the road to a place called Ambrosia's. We sat near a log fire, drank Gluhwein and my man ate pizza and I had the chicken schnitzel.
I was so content.
The weather wasn't sunny like I had hoped, but it was damp, cold and misty. It was actually perfect. Who would have thought?

The Last Supper

Oh man, I had such a delicious meal last night. It was a barrel of laughs! It was The Last Supper for the TV show and what a feast it was.
I took so many photo's that I could retire. I say this because, I'm going to make an absolute fortune from blackmailing them!
I will however post my pics of Darren Scott. It's his party trick that I've heard of before from some mates who have witnessed it... good grief, it's one thing to hear about it, it's quite something to see it! Dear Lord!

I had a kg of tiger giant prawns... holy crap I was in heaven...garlic and lemon butter heaven!! I couldn't move afterwards and I was looking at all my options as to how I was going to get a crane to lift me out of the restaurant. Seriously.

I honestly thought the evening would be over relatively early. HA! I got home at 02h20 with a fuzzy head and I have the hangover of hangovers today. I feel so lovely.
I wasn't the last to leave... and again, no names mentioned... they went straight to work from the party! Ouch! I've done that once and I vowed never again!! I like my job. Alot.
I had such a great time, even if my body doesn't love me all that much, right now!
As promised: here are the pics of Darren Scott. His party trick is to pour Stroh Rum on his head and then light it. The thing is he then tells the guys holding the jugs of water, to: "Wait" "Wait" "Wait" "Ok. POUR!!!"
Pic 1: Putting Stroh Rum on head.
Pic 2: Head on fire, telling jug boys to "Wait!" - pity the fairy lights were reflected in the glass...it messed up my shot!
Conclusion: The dude is crazy...entertaining and funny... but mad!! The smell of burnt hair was so attractive I can't tell you!!

Hit him!!! Hit him in the balls!!! *just kidding*

The boxing was AWESOME!!! I have never been to a live boxing match before and I must say it was an experience. It was so weird to see it up close. I really mean up close, we were ring side and one guy nearly fell through the ropes onto our chairs. It was weird to see the sweat and blood...the TV screen makes it seem a little more unreal. It was gross actually but in a sadist way, cool. Can't believe I just typed that! Yuck! hahaha!!

It was so cool to see my boxing trainers fight...a little strange, but cool. My throat is so sore today from all my screaming. I got this little bubble of satsifaction by screaming back what they would shout at me, when I couldn't bear to do one more minute with the skipping rope, or one more sit up, or one more punch: "WHERE'S YOUR HEART? WHERE'S YOUR HEART?"
It was great. Not so great was seeing them afterwards with some swelling and some bruising around their eyes and cheeks. Oooh Eina ("Ouch" for the internationals :-)

My man was excellent as a ring announcer...in a totally unbiased opinion, of course! He wasn't corny at all and managed to make: "Aaand in the Bluuuue Corner..." sound really cool and right.
I was proud, what can I say?! He's been asked back by the boxing commission, so that's good news!

I can't get the flash disk to work regarding my handbag meme, so as soon as I add some air time data bundles into my 3G card, I'll be able to post it from my laptop!
An irritation of note.

I have a wrap up dinner party tonight for a TV show I've been on and it's a bittersweet day. The bitter part is that I am really going to miss working with the guys, I've learnt so much and I've had a blast being the only female... The show has been running for 10 years, but I only joined them in September. It's a pity it's over.
The sweet part is that I am looking forward to the prawns! Yummy! We all know how I feel about prawns now, right? Mmmm mmmm mmmmm!!!!

Good times!
I have to go baby shopping tomorrow. Hold. the bus. It's for a baby shower and a 1 year old birthday party. Now...is there anything I can take with me, you know, like garlic, a crucifix or maybe a wooden spoke to prevent broodiness? It's a terrible thing...everything is so cute and little and sweet and has the unbelievable charm of making me go: Awwwww and Oooooh and the worst: I want one!
Perhaps I should take a shitty nappy or a recording of a screeching child, with me... that'll help! hahaha!

Fishy Weddings!?!

My favourite food is Prawns. God created the most delicious little creatures for me to dip into lemon butter sauce. They're just divine!
I know they're bottom feeders but let's just ignore that, ok?
I feel sorry for people who are allergic to shell fish or who simply don't like prawns. Your taste buds are missing out dudes!
We went to Jimmy's Killer Prawns last night and I was in my total element.
You will be not want to know me, be associated to me or even be near me when I eat prawns. Let's just say, the way I eat prawns makes eating saucy ribs look like an etiquette lesson at a Ladies Finishing School.
I will scar you for life and embarrass the shit out of you, if you are near me at the All You Can Eat Special.
*I'm salivating as I type this*

Today I went for the bridesmaid dress fitting for Special K's wedding. It's beautiful! We have a lovely friend who wants her friends standing up for her on her wedding day, to look gorgeous, not frumpy with bows and puffy sleeves. She's a doll!

I just cannot believe Special K is getting married. I just can't. She's my closest friend, my drinking buddy, my confidant, shopping stylist, business partner, the list goes on and now she's getting married. I know nothing will change from that, but it's weird to think that next weekend she will be a Mrs.
I'm so proud and excited for her. It's so awesome to see two incredible people, so in love getting married.
I know they're going to be happy and have gorgeous sprogs. *Sigh*
Aw, I'm so damn happy for them. I am also making a speech and I don't know how I'm not going to choke up!
Oh dear!

Oh and now to embarrass myself royally. Last Saturday, the man and I went to the mall to get some things (as you do.) I was in one of those cheeky moods. You know? Good mood, feeling funny and happy. I casually but cheekily walked past American Swiss and said: "Oh. My engagement ring is in there."
Now we have this weird thing where we tease each other. Hard to explain.
I was expecting him to roll the eye balls and walk faster.
Instead, he stopped, looked at me and said: "Ok. Let's see."
What? No. I wasn't expecting that.
So I did. I showed him the gorgeous ring, but suddenly felt shy. Shy? WTF?
He looked at it and then asked the price. I had never actually looked at the price. I don't know why, I just hadn't.
The lady at the counter (all excited at the fact she could be making a sale...clearly motivated by commission) told us and I didn't think it was horrific. Don't get me wrong...it's still a lot of money, but in comparison to some rings I've seen, I didn't think it was too bad.
I saw my man's colour in his face drain and his eyes enlarge. "How much?"
Oh fuck. This is not how this was supposed to go. It was supposed to be cute and funny, right? WRONG.
I'm not going to put the price here, because I'm now doubtful as to whether I'm being outrageous.
My man looked at me with this look that said: "Seriously? You expect me to pay this amount of money? Oh. MY. GOD!"
I was now saying (too quickly): "Oh you know... it's not really what I'm expecting, you know. It doesn't really suit me."
We both knew I was lying. I was saying this straight after I had been crazy/dreamy-eyed about the ring.
It just went downhill from there.
He then muttered that he would never be able to afford that. Well didn't I just feel like the best girlfriend in the world? I was having the BEST TIME EVER!!
Fuck.
The situation was lightened up abit, when the sales woman (looking all eager. Too eager, you know, with the fake smile that must have been hurting her cheeks by now) asked if we would be taking it.
He said to her (deadly serious): "Um. It's not exactly what I'm looking to spend. I was wondering...um... do you have any ring for about R600; R700?"
The sales lady looked startled: "Um. No sir. You wont find an engagement ring for that price sir."
She gave me a sympathetic look that said: Shame! You poor thing.
We walked out killing ourselves laughing.
Phew. One way to alleviate a rather uncomfortable situation.
Gosh...what was meant to be cute and quirky turned out to be AWKWARD!
